Story Orangutan
ROGER is the name of a male orangutan resident of Tanjung Harapan Camp. He is currently 43 years old.
Roger was first brought to the area by a German foreigner named Mr. Roger. At the time, he was only 2 years old and had a skin disease.
In 1982, I was still a student at Kumai 1 Junior High School and at that time, I was enjoying English lessons at school. I happened to meet a foreigner on the street carrying a baby orangutan. I approached him and asked him in my English does not very fluently. Then, I invited him to my friend Dr. Fachrudin's house, who is now a lecturer at UNAS Jakarta.
I took Mr. Roger to Dr. Fachrudin's house near the Kumai Hilir Mosque. They chatted in English, and I just listened and understood what they were saying. The baby was received by Brother Fachrudin and then handed over to the orangutan clinic in Pasir Panjang. That's a brief story about the Orangutan Roger.
Two King Were Fighting in Camp Leakey
When I was still a tour guide in Tanjung Puting, I personally witnessed a fight between two kings, Kosasi and Tom.
Kosasi was the long-time king of Camp Leakey, while Tom was Tutut's grown-up son. Their faces and bodies were indeed different. Kosasi looked thin and had a slightly darker complexion, while Tom had a fresh face, red feathers, and a dashing physique.
When I brought tourists from Japan and they were photographers, we were at the feeding area of Camp Leakey. When we arrived there was already a Kosasi waiting because he was the king. It was seen from the movements of the Kosasi looking up and also looking around.
Suddenly a long call was heard, and the long call was answered by the Kosasi. Tom arrived walking on the ground approaching the feeding area.
A fierce battle ensued, accompanied by the cries of the two kings.
The fight was stopped for about an hour after being broken up by rangers at Camp Leakey. Kosasi appeared to be wounded and bleeding from his head, while Tom remained fearlessly in place. From then on, Tom assumed the kingship around 2007.
